Checking Search Engine Rankings Notes:
- 09/21/07 - You do NOT need to enter the full webpage URL in the search form. Simply enter the main (homepage) URL. For example, http://www.yoursite.com - The ranking tool will return a result if it finds a subpage being ranked for the search.
- 05/27/07 - Google recently began adding and replacing the top 3 local search results with Google Map local listings. Depending on where you are located, and whether you are logged into your Google account, Google displays either 10 search results without the local listings, 10 search results including 3 local listings, or 13 search results consisting of 3 local listings and 10 search results below. The Search Engine Ranking tool was designed to return global search results. It cannot tell the difference between local and global searches.
- We have not included Ask.com and Teoma because they don't allow third-party sites to crawl its database.
- Search engines, such as Google and Yahoo!, recently began customizing search results based on location, surfing and search behavior. As a result, the web site rankings may differ from the rankings shown on search engine results pages, and is not a bug. Estimate accordingly.
- System returns top 100 rankings, and remembers last 10 search results.
- If you notice the search results are not being logged its likely because you entered more than one keyword phrase. You can reset device by clearing your browser cache. This is a browser bug I am working on.
- Reports display first top ranking for a domain that matches ANY URL in the search engine results.
- Once you click the "Check Rankings" button, please be patient as it can take between 20 and 40 seconds to process your search. If nothing happens after 60 seconds, press your browsers back button, refresh page, and try again.
- The system remembers the last 10 searches, so you can compare your search engine rankings to your competitors'. There's no need to sign up or log in, but cookies must be accepted by your web browser.
- Entering "www.yoursite.com" and "yoursite.com" may produce different results.
- Results may vary due to factors beyond our control. These include time of day, where you are located, indexing runs, traffic load, load balancing measures, server timeout, ongoing ranking jobs, etc.
- Some users have asked why their results are different from what they see in a particular search engine. Sometimes this is due to the user being located outside the U.S., so they may see a localized version of the search results, as opposed to the U.S. version. The search engine rankings checker was designed to avoid local search results, but may at times pick them up depending on algorithm updates the search engine may be performing.
